Movie recap 2024: My personal favorite movies of the year that had an impact on the film industry

By Penny Theodorakopoulou,

With movies that, not only blew up the box office, but also won over reviewers across the world, 2024 has been an incredible year for movies. The best 10 films of the year are listed here, in order of critical and commercial success, from number 10 to the top spot —always according to my preferences, as the title says so.

#10: Dune: Part Two

Ιmage Rights: Warner Bros

Paul Atreides sets out to bring the Fremen together and take control of the desert planet Arrakis in the eagerly awaited sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi blockbuster. With its stunning imagery and gripping story, the movie explores themes of fate, strength, and survival in greater detail, laying the groundwork for Paul’s rise to fame.

Dune: Part Two was praised by critics for its breathtaking cinematography, engrossing world-building, and eerie Hans Zimmer soundtrack. Even if some viewers were dissatisfied with the film’s pacing, Villeneuve’s careful direction and the ensemble cast’s performances gave the complex tale depth, making it a visual and narrative masterpiece.

#9: Despicable Me 4

In this fourth installment, Gru and his endearing Minions make a comeback to battle a strange new antagonist who threatens to ruin everything Gru values. Gru saves the day by navigating amusing scenarios, touching moments, and action-packed scenes with the aid of his family and Minions.

Its ability to strike a balance between humor and emotional depth is what makes the film so appealing to both spectators and critics. Despicable Me 4 stands out in the franchise because of its lively animation, witty quips, and endearing family dynamics, demonstrating that Gru and his Minions still have a lot of laughter and heart to provide.

#8: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

In the much-anticipated follow-up to Tim Burton’s beloved cult movie, everyone’s favorite naughty ghost returns for a brand-new adventure full of strange characters and otherworldly antics. When a new family moves into the haunted mansion, Beetlejuice is called upon to help them with their paranormal issues, which leads to predictable chaos.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was praised by critics for adding new plot points while maintaining the original’s oddball flair.
