By Evridiki Fatolia,
As a follow-up to my previous article, this is a list of places in the UK that left me wanting more.
1. Cotswolds
Cotswolds was hands down one of the most disappointing locations! We have all seen these reels on social media that make Cotswolds look like a fairytale, like a scene from Cinderella. But if we want to be honest with ourselves, it is only worth it if someone decides to visit more than one of the nearby villages. Not to mention that the public transport there is really inconvenient, as there is only one bus every four hours. If you visit only one village, you will only need an hour to take pictures and have a meal or coffee. Admittedly, there are not a lot of options for food and drinks and, on top of that, they are usually overpriced. Even if you go for these instagrammable pictures, note that queues are long and it takes a lot of time for the crowd to move. However, the pictures in the end are worth it.
2. Bradford-on-Avon
Again, this is a place that looks great on Instagram but in reality, apart from the popular photo spots, there isn’t much else to see. The most important sights are really close to each other, which can be a good thing, and it only takes about an hour to see the whole city. Maybe in combination with another destination it would be better, but I would not recommend it on its own.
3. Canterbury
I was one of those who saved all the beautiful posts about the natural beauty of Canterbury, expecting beautiful gardens and boat trips where I could admire what the English nature had to offer. Reality hit hard. Actually, the gardens were nothing like the ones appearing on Instagram, and the murky river water made every picture worse than it already was.
4. Rye
Alright, this was another one of the greatest disappointments, since I had a lot of high expectations. Not only did it take me ages with public transportation to arrive, but there were also very few things to see and do. In all honesty, the best place I visited was probably a bakery. All the Instagram places were basically just a road. Maybe the best option was to take the bus for a fifteen-minute distance and go to the nearest beach to enjoy a long walk with a beautiful sunset. A lot of people were also doing kitesurfing and it was really picturesque.
5. Bournemouth
Bournemouth was the least disappointing place in my opinion. The main problem was that, apart from the beach, there is nothing else interesting to see. The good thing is that it is close to London and that it is the home of Bournemouth University, which means that there is a lot of action going on due to the youthful residents located there.
