Lauren Fryer is a CEO but usually referred to as Declan Rice’s, Arsenal’s football player’s girlfriend. They have a son together and their relationship’s duration comes up to eight years. For the past few months, Lauren Fryer has been the target of deplorable, sexist, and misogynistic remarks on the Internet due to her appearance and most specifically, her weight. Most have noted as a comment to her partner that she “could have done better” in the position of Wag that is expected of her. This small statement captures the essence of patriarchy today.
Lauren Fryer has been forced to alter her Instagram account, deleting all of her images. Declan Rice also removed the pictures they had shared from his account. The violence of cyberbullying was based on their sick desire to spread their toxicity, as it was taken lightheartedly.
Lauren Fryer’s body is feminine. That did not please the others. But how should it be?
It is not a new occurrence (the stigma of gravity is a fact), nor is it new that sexists mistreat and commit physical and psychological violence. Most offensive critiques state that as a football player, Declan Rice had to select a stylish model, a recognizable “sexy”, as the set standards claim, actress.
Even more, they encourage him to find someone else, someone who always looks perfect. This worked as a demand for the Premier League player. Lauren Fryer does not match any of the criteria (among others). It doesn’t matter to the haters that the couple is in love and happy.
Their obsession is Lauren Fryer’s physique. To appease the male gaze, the young woman had to use a magic stick to shed her pregnancy pounds. Additionally, because her physique defies stereotypes, she was an easy target. Jokes regarding Lauren Fryer’s weight don’t bring her down. They detest her for being happy in a committed relationship with a man who accepts her for who she is; they also detest her for enjoying lavish vacations and for not being “authentic” when traveling on private aircraft. They are primarily envious of her because she appears to have confidence in herself and refuses to allow her weight scale to define who she is. In actual life, online trolls are the most dangerous and envious individuals.
Furthermore, they essentially mirror their own self-insecurity with hate speeches and sexist comments on social media. How shallow it is to assess a woman by her appearance, does not need to be mentioned. It goes without saying that attractiveness doesn’t come with a size.
Replicating abusive stereotypes on the Internet that concern the “perfect body” of a woman is nearly illegal in a world where adolescent women have disordered eating patterns, low self-esteem, and anxiety disorders due to their weight.
