The top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time [Part I]

Let us be honest here. Everyone loves movies and everyone has that one movie that they re-watch all the time. But what really makes a movie become successful? What factors contribute to some of the most successful movies ever? Many elements, like the story, the genre, the cinematography, and the star-studded cast, go into making a movie a hit. Blockbuster movies that have caught the attention of many cine-goers have managed to earn billions of dollars and top the worldwide box office. These movies come from different genres like action, sci-fi, and drama and have caused movie lovers to flock to cinemas all over the world, resulting in record-breaking premieres. Can you take a guess on the movies that have grossed billions of dollars, till now? Let us take a look at the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time.

10. Furious 7 (2015) – Box-office gross: $1,516 billion

The Fast and Furious franchise has become one of the most famous franchises ever. In this installment of the series, the entire gang is reunited in order to face a new threat and in hopes of returning to their normal lives. The whole cast was back for Furious 7, including Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, and the late Paul Walker. This film was the last time we got the chance to see Paul Walker on the big screen before his untimely death. Furious 7 was perceived as a tribute to the talented actor that left us too early, and we must admit that this was one of the reasons that this was the franchise’s most successful entry. It managed to gross over $147 million on the opening weekend and earn its place on the list of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

9. The Avengers (2012) – Box-office gross: $1,518 billion

The first film that featured all the Avengers working together proved that they make an incredible team. The Avengers, which was released in 2012, featured Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Black Widow, the Hulk, and Hawkeye, and it was the film that after five movies of the marvel cinematic universe assembled the whole team for an epic battle against Loki and his alien army from taking over the earth. The Avengers was the first movie to gross over $200 million in a weekend and it did absolutely amazing at the Box Office. This movie was the first one to set into motion the dominance of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies that were to follow.

The Lion King truly roared. The remake of one of the most successful Disney films of all time, despite the fact that it received mixed reviews from the audience, managed to gross $191 million during the first weekend of its release. For those who have not watched Disney’s 1994 Lion King, the movie follows a young lion prince, named Simba, who was born to become a king. A series of events caused by his uncle’s conspiracies made him leave the kingdom. Along the way of his new journey, Simba meets new friends while planning to reclaim what is legitimately his. The remake of The Lion King is probably the most successful remake of all time and one of the best movies of 2019.

7. Jurassic World (2015) – Box-office gross: $1,671 billion

When Jurassic World first came out in 2015, the film had to compete with massive hits of the cinema like The Avengers, but it successfully went through and grossed $600 million at the box office. Jurassic World is a thrilling sci-fi action movie that is all about dinosaurs. Specifically, the plot revolves around a dinosaur-themed park, which is the home to genetically hybrid dinosaurs. When Indominus Rex escapes from the park, along with other prehistoric creatures all hell breaks loose. Dinosaur trainer named Owen Grady (portrayed by Chris Pratt), along with one of the park’s managers named Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), team up in order to stop the killing spree, creating a fun and thrilling blockbuster.

6. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) – Box-office gross: $1,901 billion

2021 was definitely a difficult year for all of us and having spent many months in quarantine due to the pandemic when Spiderman: No Way Home came out all of us movie lovers rushed to the cinema. The movie, which was an unexpected Βox Οffice champion, was another entry in the MCU that gathered many beloved characters back for an epic showdown. The film is the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie ever, and it absolutely dominated 2021. The movie follows Peter Parker, portrayed by Tom Holland, trying to find a way to restore his secret as his identity as Spider-Man had been exposed. He asks Doctor Strange for help, without realizing that this will have unspeakable consequences. We must not miss giving a huge shout-out to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who reprised their roles as Spider-Man, as well as the talented Zendaya in the role of MJ.
